It's been emotional, blood sweat and tears....

Well not so much blood, sweat even!

A few tears and interruptions from other work requirements, but it's done.

Eventually.

And you know what I really like it!

I think its fun, which is the name of the game for me, the illustrations are bright and cheerful, which is another bonus, the story rolls along and is funny, which is what I am hoping to communicate across.

So fingers crossed it will do well on the charts and people want to buy yet book.

And now for something completely different.....

So not to get too boring I guess and maybe there isn't always things to discuss or blog about in the illustrating World for me, I decided to give you a little insight into the inner Paul.

My career path has predominantly been in a physically taxing environment, starting with the British Army and the n the Police, so keeping fit was important and indoctrinated from an early age.

Taken that I know I am a little lazy at best I have decided that now I drive a desk, I need to try and stay in some sort of shape.

And round is not the best shape , contrary to populate belief!

So I went out and bought a set of DVD's, not good at running I feel I have to go really, really early so people are not put off by the strangely red shaded dumbass, having a stroke and heart attack on the side of the road.

So the DVD's....

Well I bought 'insanity' by Shaun T, 13 DVD's of torture, that I paid good money for!! But after the first week has finished and sticking to it religiously I feel a little better and the boss (wife) has already seen a positive change in my physique, I haven't but I have sweated a bucket load of water all over the lounge carpet..... The program is 6 days a week, he gives you Sunday off...... How nice eh? But I really recommend it, it's interesting and hard enough to make you push yourself, it's also refreshing to see the people in the DVD, although they look fit, are struggling to keep up with the program..... Ha ha that'll teach you!

I shall keep you posted, if I don't keel over any time soon.

Getting the Goat!

Okay so I finished my latest project.... Illustrating the Goats head in the middle of this film poster.

the story is all about the Goat that was elected as president in Whangamomona back in 1999.

I for one am really looking forward to this film, I reckon its gonna be awesome, the poster is pretty awesome already!

Clash of clans

So is anyone playing 'clash of clans' on the iOS?

I have become addicted, so much so that I find myself jumping on every few minutes to see if I've got enough for the next big upgrade to my base, or if there's enough troop presence to go and raid another players base!

Then there's the social element to it, if you can call it social as I know nothing much about my clansmen?! But I find myself striking up conversation and making sure I donate as many troops as possible to my new found 'friends'

It's really sad, in a good way, that such a very simple game in the light of today's technological advancements can be so addictive, forget you playstation 4, give me the iPad anyday the nature and content of some of the 'free' games just blows the competition away

Gotta go now see if my base is okay, got attacked yesterday and they really creamed me!

Doodle D Dragon... Is finished

Well, some serious effort and time has paid off, Doodle is now finished, just got some proof reading to do and fine tuning (fine tuning!?!) before its ready to go to print and ebook status.

The cartoons look good, a step further on from Loopy, improvement is always the aim with each one from here on in, and my techniques are improving with each book, hopefully this will be evident upon release.

With Loopy, this was my first real book that I had complete control over what I did as marketing is concerned, Doodle is my second book, but is completely written and illustrated by me only, with no contributions from other parties I have no one to please but myself, so I am looking forward to how things go from here.

Over the weekend I attended a self publishing course run by a great author, Joy Findlay, and got some good tips on marketing, so I really want to push the boundaries on this one.

PS, if you get the chance to go on one of Joys self publishing courses in the future, then I recommend it as there is some really useful information from someone who has been there, seen it and done it.

Doodle on hold

Well it's was bound to happen..... A project has come along that is paying me to do some illustration work, so Doodle will go onto the back burner for a short while until this project is off the ground.

Hopefully in the next couple of weeks my illustrations will see themselves embedded onto tourist maps in the area, just got to get the sketches approved before I can move onto colour, etc.

Oh well, what will be will be, paying work has to take priority!

Doodle D. Dragon

So Doodle is coming along nicely, made the decision to produce an ebook format along with a print format version of the book as I go along.... Try and save some time in the long run.

Looking good, simple and to the point, that's what I'm after, at this rate, pending anything else coming up that needs my attention I should have the illustrations completed by the end of next week, beginning of the week after.

Should be out in time for my birthday!

Proper celebration, turn 43, release a book!

Just a quick one..... so the first book... Loopy Lizard... after the free promotion had finished there were 367 books 'sold' in total.....

Now lets hope that from this I can get a reader base and maybe some reviews...

That's the ultimate goal, just to get out there and see how the work is taken up....

Hi Guys,

well here's the next book..... well the front cover anyway, the story is written, the illustrations are coming on, so far there are 10 in total, keeping it simple...... bit like me!?!?!

at the rate I am working it should be complete in the next couple of weeks.... then amazon here I come.

I am doing two versions at the same time, different formats, one for ebooks sizing and one for createspace printable version. Both have the same content, just a little different spacing wise to make better use of the ebook version

Woo hoo time

Well it's cracked 300! So happy that that many people have taken a chance on my book..... Early days, from small acorns and such?

Never realized how excited I would get from watching the sale report update.... Is this sad?

Do I need to get a life or a new hobby.... Other than rearranging my sock drawer, to categorizing my belly button fluff collection.

I assure you that I don't collect my belly button fluff!

Sounds like it could well be a good idea for a children's book......nah, not really, I certainly don't think it would sell, but then never thought a book about farting lizards would sell, but it is!

Thanks again for going out on a limb and giving the book a shot.

Rolling....

Well as of today the total so far is 279 units given away for free in my book promotion...

Really happy that that many books have moved and there are people out there now reading what I do.

So thank you to everyone reading this blog, you are probably amongst those that have downloaded the book, I do appreciate your consideration.

So onto the next, just a couple of days left to go on the promo, but the next book is coming along swimmingly, the interest in Loopy has given me the incentive to crack on with Doodle Dragon, the next book, solely written by me an illustrated as well, of course!!

Will keep you updated with is progress, but so far the penciled designs for all of the illustrations are complete, the first one I started inking (can you call it inking when you use a computer?) so I will beaver on and get them out there for all to see and pass their opinion on.

Okay, so I am seriously happy at the moment.... Just been to have a look at how the 'free' book promotion is going with my latest book 'Loopy Lizard and the King's Pardon' and in one day it's sold over 177 copies..!

I know that is may seem like small fry to the mega- writers out there, but to me at this very early stage in my writing and illustrating career.... It's pretty damn impressive....

Will we what tomorrow brings..

Now out of all of those free downloads, I wonder how many people will actually write a review of the book, I so hope that the reviews get into double figures by the end of the promotion.

Even better if it goes to three figures.... Is that a bit too ambitious?

First of many.....

Okay, so here we go..... my first post..... well I guess I ought to really say 'hello' and say what I am about.....

So Hello...

What am I about and what am I intending to achieve?

I have more or less just started out as a cartoonist and illustrator, designing my own and other people illustrations for books and business use, my artistic 'bent' is fundamentally cartoon-like in its appearance, although I can be serious and do go down the serious line as and when required. But I prefer to use my illustrations for entertainment.

so what have I achieved so far?

Well, it's the start of a very long road and this just the beginning, having set a website up.... www.hairytrolldesignz.com.... And illustrated a number of children's books for other people I have just finished my latest book 'Loopy Lizard and the King's Pardon' also a children's book....
